Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why should I hire you instead of a temporary?

A: I give you an opportunity to consult with me in detail prior to the project (at no charge) and help you determine if I am qualified to do the job. That is compared to an agency recruiter who discusses your project with you, then sends the person they think is best qualified and available. They may or may not be qualified.

I may be able to offer more skills and experience to your project than the average temporary as well.

Also, temporary agencies and their employees are looking to generate as many paid hours as possible while filling a need for your business. My focus is to set up a schedule that gets your job done in a time frame that works best for you. So if you need three hours one day, and five the next, that's okay.

Q: How do I save money by hiring you if your rates are comparable to those of a temporary agency?

A: With schedule flexibility you only pay for the hours needed. You aren't locked into a 40 hour per week commitment. I can also save you money utilizing my skills and experience in process improvement and consulting. I will focus on doing what's best and most cost-effective for you during the project, and look for improvements that can help you save money long after I'm done.

Q: Wouldn't it be less expensive to pay my employees overtime to get extra work done? After all, they don't need any training.

A: The advantage of hiring a project specialist comes when your employees are already working hard and working them longer hours may impact their work quality and/or their morale. In addition, it is oftentimes an important benefit to get a fresh perspective on a project or process. I can bring that fresh perspective and offer ideas that employees may not think of because they've gotten used to doing things a certain way. My skills, experience and focus on process improvement is an added benefit, compared to most employees.

Q: What kind of scheduling requirements do you have?

A: My scheduling requirements vary and I generally schedule my work during the bounds of a traditional work week. However, I can offer evening and weekend hours if the project dictates and depending on the other demands on my time.

I generally work my schedules out on a week-by-week basis. Because I am a parent and have other clients to serve, I need to maintain my flexibility to address the demands that arise. When I'm working on a project I generally know what is coming up in the next few weeks and can disclose that up front, and in weekly updates with my client. If a project is expected to run for more than a couple of weeks, I will start the project with a proposed schedule, then work closely with the client each week to fine tune it as needed. While I do have my own needs for flexibility, which is why I do this type of work, my intention for each client is to be flexible in ways that benefit the client, not to just find ways to serve me.

Q: What kinds of projects have you done and clients have your worked for?

A: With over 20 years of experience, I have completed a wide variety of projects for both employers and clients. You can see some examples on my Projects Examples and Client List pages for details. Please feel free to call or e-mail me if you have questions about a specific project you are considering.
